STEM project:Science Girl

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Subjects have for a long time been under represented by females and although a lot is done post GCSE to encourage more girls into these subject areas it has been my experience raising a daughter that the majority start to view these subjects in a more negative or as male dominated from the last few years of primary school and so it is important to try to engage more girls to stay with the subjects at this point.

This was produced for my local primary school so that their class could use it as an aid to their lessons and home learning.

Even though most media produced by schools is non-gender specific the need to reach the target group in a way that they commonly chosen outside of school (printed magazines, book and social media) shows that most children of this age that identify as female connect with this type of design. I could be that future designs could offer a non-gender based version as well but in the classes that this was tested the girls loved it and the boys did not find any issues the use of the more feminine design because it was technology based.
